1. Financial Report: Not available for this meeting
2. Barnside Harvest Festival (BSF):
Steve S reports a new improved plan following his meeting with Dave S and the BSF organizers. Past history: the Delta Firefighters ran this venue in 2023 and took away ~ $16,000. The plan: professional chefs organize the food, cook the food in the SCK and clean up after each day. The TBBL buys the food, collects the customer’s cash and serves the customers at outside tables. The BSF will take 20% of the total sales. In 2023, the left over for the Firefights was about $16,000. The BSF anticipated greater sales volume with the superior setup of the our SCK, thus a residual for the TBBL of ~ $30,000.
A total of 32, 4 hour shifts between 12:00 and 10 PM will be required. The SCK shifts can be covered by TBBL members, their families and friends. The Chair Check Program is still on for the TBBL. The SCK will be position beside the check area, thus allowing transfers of staff from one venue to another. This will require 16, 4 hour shifts to be covered by the TBBL and perhaps the SDSS football. Allan C will approach to football team with this request and a donation to the team of $1000 for the three days. mVolunteers will receive passes for the event. Further details will be provided to the membership via email over the summer.
Steve S suggests that for 2025, we advertise that our profit donations are going to our long term “BIG” project of providing $180,000 for the Kin Village Seniors Day Care Program exercise equipment. A motion to accept the plans for the BSF event and the allocation of the profits going to the Kin Village program for 2025 was made by Steve S, second Allan C, all in favour. This will now require approval by the membership.
3. September 3 General Meeting
Dave S will be out of town during this time. Barry H will stand in as Chair, with Allan C as a backup. Steve D will also be away. Peter T will take the meeting minutes.
4. Socializing at General meetings;
Steve D will continue as Tail Twister with “events”. Shareable snacks of finger food will be organized this fall. TBBL requires a volunteer to organize this project.
5. Point Roberts 4th of July
Dave S will send a letter to the “person in charge of the parade” via the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce, to request the TBBL participation. Dave S will ask the TBBL membership for a volunteer to organize this event.
6. Driver for Beth on July 3
Peter T will drive Beth to this appointment. Steve D will be a backup. It was mentioned that the Waterford does provide a shuttle service with prior notice. It was recognized that Beth really appreciates being accompanied through the eye appointment procedure. This may not be possible with the Waterford shuttle.
7 SDSS Bursary;
SDSS student Rosetta Cao, was the recipient of the 2024 TBBL, Russ Wellburn scholarship. She will be studying to be a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at BCIT. Steve D will review the TBBL scholarship criteria to better define our definition of “a trade”. Steve D will send a letter to Delta Secondary School (DSS) to offer the establishment of a similar scholarship to DSS students.
8. Canada Day
Barry H has the event firmly under control with the help of Steve D and Sergiy S. The official ceremony and cake cutting will take place at 12:45, to accommodateMayor Harvie’s commitment at another event. Kim C will be the MC for the ceremony. Steve D has an ad submitted to the Delta Optimist. The South Delta Classic Car Club will arrive and stop at Diefenbaker Park with 300 cars at 10:30. A PA announcement will be made by someone.
Steve S is overseeing the refurbishment of the “TBBL Lions’ head” for someone to use to cruise the crowd. A volunteer is being sought.
CDC
Barry H will pursue the TBBL’s plan to fund a major project with the Kin Village Seniors Day Care program. The donation of $180,000 is requested by Kin Village to provide exercise equipment for the facility.
The TBBL would receive “Room Naming” recognition at the facility. Barry H will meet with Kristen Thomas, Kin’s Director of Development, to explore the Barnside option as outlined in these minutes item # 2
NEW
Steve S was given the go ahead to research the cost of purchasing new tents for Club events. Blue tents with gold lettering would be preferred.
