Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions
November 4th, 2024
Cammidge House
Meeting called to order at 7PM
Induction of New Member:
Lion President Dave S. inducted our newest member, Sim Sandhu, with assistance from Lions Steve S., along with Steve D., his sponsor.
Attendance: Bob B, Allan C, Steve D, Kathy D, Zahir D, Blair D, Bill D, Lion Steve K, Roger L, Steve S, David S, Sim Sandhu and Randy T. (13)
Tail Twister: Steve D. conducted a short questionnaire which gave each member points for qualifying answers such as 1 point for wearing black shoes or a point for being a Lion for less than 2 years. Randy T. had the most points and took home a portable shower clothes hanger.
Previous Minutes: Motion to approve the minutes of October 7th, 2024 by Steve D, seconded by Bob B, carried.
Business
1. Financial Report:
Steve S. moved to accept the financial report as distributed, seconded by Randy T, carried. He then reported that the club is still waiting on Barnside to remit the proceeds from the festival.
(a) Food Service for Elementary Schools
Steve S. indicated that Ladner Elementary was the only respondent to his letter to all elementary schools if we could help them with any fundraising.
(b) South Park Elementary Pancake Breakfast
has been moved to January 31, 2025
(c) OWL Open House
OWL’s fall fundraiser will be held on December 12th. Food will be similar to last year’s Hot Dogs and beverages.
(d) Garage Sale
Steve S. has suggested that we hold a garage sale when the carlot starts up again in March as we have several items in storage, such as portable grilles, tents and other miscellany with advertising to begin in February.
2. Community Donations: Barry H. was not present. Steve S. reported that several donations will be circulated to the Board by email for approval/denial and then on to the membership, based on the Large Group Donations Analysis, revised and dated November 1, 2024.
3. Zone Chair’s visit on December 2nd:
Dave S. and Steve D. attended a Zoom meeting on October 29 called by our ZC, Chris Qiu. Most clubs in our zone attended and discussed our challenges, fundraising ideas and success stories, in which we elaborated on our success at the Barnside Festival in September. ZC Chris then advised that she would be visiting our club on December 2nd and that our 1st Vice District Governor, September Stokes would be visiting us on January 6th.
4. Car Lot:
Randy T. advised the the Car Lot grossed $6,135 this year. It will be reopening on the first weekend in March 2025. Further discussion included the need of having the battery charger on the bus for the winter which will involve looking into sheltering the vehicle. We will contact Mike Guichon where the kitchen is stored as well as Metro Vancouver where our storage shed is at Cammidge House. Randy discussed the upper windows that will not stay closed.
5. Remembrance Day:
Peter T was not able to be at the meeting but Bob B and Zahir D indicated they would go to the Cenotaph in Ladner. Peter T. will contact them closer to November 11th.
6. Tree Chipping:
Allan C. reminded everyone that Tree Chipping would be happening on Jan 4/5, 2025. Steve D. will arrange the advertising on the big screen at Tsawwassen Springs, advertising in The Optimist and putting info on the Delta readerboards. Allan will arrange to have the signage erected on 56th St. and 52nd St. before Christmas as well as looking into pizza from Madhouse, coffee from McDonald’s and help from Steve S. in the kitchen at the SDRC. The SDSS Dry Grads will handle the bottle drive again this year, and the SDSS football team will assist us.
7. Christmas Party:
This year’s party will be held at Calderwoods’, as usual. Turkey and buns will be supplied but Allan will circulate a request for numbers and what everyone can bring, including salads or desserts. The party will be held on December 14th
8. Christmas Hampers: Tom McG has not been able to attend either the Hamper meeting or our meetings this fall but will attend as soon as he doesn’t work on a Monday. He would like to see us donate $1,500 to the program run by Deltassist. This will be circulated to the Board for approval and then on to the membership.
