Business

Financial Report – Steve S.

Steve S was unable to be at the meeting, but he had sent out the Financial Report last Wednesday with a total of approximately $61,000 in the bank.

Community Donations Committee – Barry H.

Barry H. had sent out 2 documents suggesting the Donations Criteria and “Large Group Donation Analysis”. They were previously attached to the minutes of the September 16 Board meeting. Generally, the Board agreed with the criteria, but concern was expressed that the committee should not avoid making donations to help local individuals who are in need.

The following members have agreed to serve on the committee: Doug Bunker, Patti Bedard and Zahir Dossa.

Barry then introduced 3 donations for the Board’s approval.

1. Delta Stroke Recovery Society -  $7,500, seconded by Allan C. Last year we donated $2,500 but this year, they will not receive any funding from Fraser Health and they would like to expand their outreach program. There is only one paid administrative employee, the rest being volunteers.

2. Dyslexia Tutoring program through the South Delta Baptist Church - $7,500. Last year we approved $7,500 to be paid annually for 3 years, subject to an annual review. We have received information from them that they currently have 9 students and have asked what their target is for 2024/25, before we agree to this years’ donation. They have provided an updated brochure for the tutoring program, but the document does not mention ‘dyslexia’.

3. Boys and Girls Club of South Coast BC (BGC’s Wintemute Club) - $1,000. Last year’s donation was for $1,000. We have asked them what the specific activities the boys and girls do when in the Tsawwassen facility at Winskill Park.

Other requests that have been turned down include:

1. KinVillage Adult Care Project which involved the Club becoming a ‘Naming Donator’. We may decided to donate funds to purchase exercise equipment, etc.

2. Benediction Lutheran and Tsawwassen United Church who are raising funds to sponsor the relocating of a Syrian family of 5 who have received final approval to come to Canada. While we have indicated to the sponsoring churches that some our members would like to donate some of their own household items, funding for relocation purposes was determined to be outside of donations requirements.

3. Youth sport sponsorship opportunity - up to $1,000. A team of four teenagers, one of whom is from Tsawwassen while the other 3 are from Vancouver have asked us to help sponsor them as they pursue a Provincial Curling title in 2025. This has been rejected by the committee.

Easter Seals House - David S.

The renovation of the suite at the easter Seals House in Vancouver has been completed and we will receive recognition with a plaques that will be affixed to the door to the unit. Dave would like to have a photo op with 3 or 4 Lions which is to take place next Friday.

Membership – Lorri H.

Steve D. reported that Bill Simmons (Pt.Roberts) has resigned from the Club. Steve will follow up with John Brewer who has indicated he would like to rejoin the Club. Also, Sim Sandhu will be attending the Nov. 4th meeting at which he will receive his induction.
